Cordillera peace council adopts Dumanun Makitungtong strategy

BAGUIO CITY— The Cordillera Regional Peace and Order Council (CRPOC ) passed a resolution adopting the “Dumanun Makitungtong” strategy to known members of left-leaning organizations to help address the five-decades long armed struggle of communist rebels, led by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army-National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF) .

The resolution adopting  Cordillera Regional Law Enforcement Coordinating Council (CRLECC) Number 06, Series of 2021 entitled: A resolution enjoining the members of the law enforcement agencies together with the representatives of local government units (LGUs), religious sector, and NGOs to conduct “Dumanun Makitungtong” strategy to known members of Communist Front Organizations (CFOs) was adopted during the recently concluded 3rd quarter meeting of the peace council here.

The “Dumanun Makitungtong” Strategy translates to the conduct of house visits to known members of the CFOs in order to persuade them to stop dealing with or supporting the CPP-NPA-NDF in the region.

Araceli A. San Jose, OIC-Regional Director of Department of the Interior and Local Government and Head Secretariat of CRPOC said that the said resolution is in support of the priority thrust of the President in addressing the insurgency problem in the country.

The CRPOC also urged the Provincial and Highly Urbanized City Peace and Order Councils to adopt the RLECC resolution and the strategy, as well as to enjoin  their component Local Peace and Order Councils to do the same.

Among the agenda discussed are Updates on the Significant Accomplishments in the Region which have an impact on the Peace and Order Situation;  Latest Accomplishments on ELCAC, Latest Accomplishments on Illegal Drugs and Briefing on the Issues regarding the Watch list involving Political Candidates; Defining the RPOC’s Objectives and Critical Actions for July 2021 – June 2022; and Survey on vaccinations.
